UNU-ISP scholarship is for admission into Master of Science and PhD in Sustainability Science Programme at Tokyo.UNU is an international academic institution chartered by the United Nations. The UNU-ISP scholarship is conducted by United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Peace. UNU-ISP Scholarship 2018 is inviting application for September 2018. The scholarships are provided to students who can demonstrate the need for finance. There is no separate application fee for the scholarship.

UNU-ISP (United Nations University-Institute for Sustainability & Peace) through its postgraduate programmes takes an innovative approach to sustainability, bridging these cross-cutting themes through research, educational and collaborative initiatives.
The PhD in Sustainability Science programme aims to produce scholars who will become key researchers in the area of sustainability science. The PhD is 3 years and Master's degree is a 2 years programme and will be taught in the English Language. The PhD dissertation of students will be on one of the research themes of UNU-ISP with a focus on global change and sustainability.
Thus, the Master's and PhD in Sustainability Science involves problem-oriented research that would enable students to acquire quantitative and qualitative analytical research skills to understand the underlying principles between various systems involved in sustainability issues and debates.
Through coursework and research, Master's and PhD students are able to gain critical thinking, problem-solving skills and technical literacy in addressing sustainability problems.

The University offers full time and part time scholarships for students applying for PhD programme.
The full-time scholarship is very competitive and covers following things:
*120,000 JPY is the average monthly living cost for an international student without dependents in Tokyo, although this amount may vary depending on the lifestyle of the student.
The candidates have to apply for the UNU-ISP PhD Programme and they do not have to fill a separate application form for the scholarship. The candidates have to apply for the UNU-ISP PhD programme only online. There is no offline application process. There is no application Processing Fee.

The application has to be submitted via online mode. The candidates need to create a new user account to submit your applications. The online form can be saved and returned to at any time before submitting. All application forms must be typed and filled in English.

List of documents to be submitted for PhD Programme:
Tuition Fee: 10,000 USD per year
Estimated total expenses for the PhD degree programme for 3 years including tuition are approximately 83,500 USD.
List of documents to be submitted for Master's Programme:
Tuition Fee: 10,000 USD per year
Estimated total expenses for the Master's degree programme for 2 years including tuition are approximately 56,000 USD.
The application reviewing process and decision making about the scholarship take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.The candidates who have been selected for UNU ISP Master's and PhD Programme will be notified via e-mail. Necessary documents for the admission procedure will be sent together with a letter of acceptance. Successful applicants must submit a medical certificate.
The matriculation date (early September 2018) cannot be extended, regardless of any special circumstances on the part of the student. The unsuccessful applicants will be notified by e-mail to the address provided on Application Form. Admissions Office does not provide individual feedback on unsuccessful applications. An e-mail will be the primary method of contact.
