About UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition
UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition 2017 is being organised in order to spread awareness and encourage participation of youth in achieving sustainable development. The UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition is open for the students from age 10 to 24 years and will accept individual participation on the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants should respond in English by making a 3-5 minute multimedia production, 500-700 word written in MLA Format.
The winners from each age group will receive a scholarship to the 2-week Builders of the Universe camp in Maryland, USA. Group admissions will split 1 scholarship between the entrants. The entries for UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition will be accepted online and the result of the competition will be declared on 30 March 2017. Given below are the categories of the participants.
- Juniors - Ages 10-14
- Youth - Ages 15-19
- Young Adult - ages 20-24
UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition Theme
The candidates should respond in English by making a 3-5 minute multimedia production, 500-700 word written an essay, artwork or another means that channels a specific passion in answering the prompt. (Translations or subtitles for projects not submitted in English do not have to be perfect.)
This Year Prompt: The international crisis of the growing number and desperate situation of refugees is one of the most pressing issues facing the world today. Document how this crisis affects your life and/or offer a comprehensive, achievable solution to the problem.

- Nationality: The UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition is open for Global participation.
- Age: The age of the candidate needs to be between 10 to 24 years. Based on the age of the participants, the competition has been divided into 3 categories:
- Juniors: Age 10 to 14 years
- Youth: Age 15 to 19 years
- Adult: Age 20 to 24 years
Participation: Only individual participation is allowed in the UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition. |
UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition Reward
Total 10 semifinalists will be selected from each category out of which winner will be selected.
- Semi-finalists: All the 10 semi-finalists from each age group will get certificates.
- Winners: All finalists from each age group will receive a scholarship to the 2-week Builders of the Universe camp in Maryland, USA. Group admissions will split 1 scholarship between the entrants.
- All participants will receive a digital thank-you letter from UNESCO Center for Peace for participating.
- Invitation to Builders of the Universe Camp: All winners will get an invitation to UNESCO’s Builders-of-the-Universe Camp held during the summer of 2107 at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland, USA. If a group wins, there will be ONE scholarship offer in each age category. It will be divided between the number of entrants per group.
- The invitation will include a scholarship for the camp fee, food, and accommodations. Airfare is not included. There will be a special ceremony held to recognise contest winners at the camp. In addition, the winners will be recognised and showcased in global events during the year. This is a tremendous opportunity for youth to build leadership skills, attend a United Nations session, meet UN members, tour the White House/ Congressional Building, and meet like-minded youth from around the world.
- Recognition in UN Global Events: Top 10 winners will be recognised in UN Global Events.
UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition Application form and Process
Submission form for the competition is available online and the participants are required to provide details of their submission along with links to complete the application process. To be a part of the UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition, candidates are required to submit a 3-minute video, multimedia presentation, essay, and artwork which presents a solution related to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set by United Nations. - Specifications: Participating candidates can select the mode in which they would like to express their views related to any particular goal. The specifications are:
- Applicants are allowed to submit 1 entry per person.
- The work to be submitted should be original and related to the question.
- Essay: The font needs to be Times New Roman, 12 points, double-spaced or 1.5, 1-inch margins all around and within 500-700 words in English in MLA format.
- Video: The maximum duration of the video is to be 3-5 minutes.
- 3-dimensional images will be accepted and the candidates should provide 100 words explanation on the submission form.
- Participants facing problem in uploading their entries can e-mail their entries to ‘YouthContest@unescousa.org’
UNESCO Worldwide Youth Multimedia Competition Selection Process
The selection of the winners will be done by a panel of international judges. The essays will be judged on the basis relevance, development, creativity, impact, and originality.
