SERB Postdoctoral Fellowship (Overseas) 2016-17 is a fellowship programme conducted by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB) a statuary body under Department of Science and Technology (Government of India). SERB Postdoctoral Fellowship program is a 1 Year Fellowship Programme (extendable to 2 years) for the candidates who have completed PhD degree in Science and Engineering. Applicants shortlisted for the fellowship programme will have an opportunity to complete their fellowship programme conducted in Institution around the world other than the USA where the candidates have to carry their research work in identified areas. SERB Postdoctoral Fellowship for study in the USA

• Duration of Scholarship Programme: 1 Year(Extendable to 1 More year on Evaluation)
• Monthly Stipend: $3000 (Equivalent to Rs 2,01,100)

Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has launched the fellowship program, and Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) will approve the applicants and make a separate call for the application form. The shortlisted candidates will get the monthly stipend of $3000 equivalent to Rs 2,01,100 followed by other benefits given below.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in India

The candidates selected for SERB Postdoctoral Fellowship (Overseas: Other than USA) will be paid the fellowship amount as under, along with the economy class airfare from their workplace in India to the host institute and returning fare.

SERB Post Doc Fellowship application form for consideration under the SERB Overseas Postdoctoral Fellowship Program (SERB OPDF) can be submitted after the application call is made. The application form will be available on the official website and the candidates have to fill the SERB Post Doc Fellowship application form by providing the details prescribed below:

The candidates have to provide the details such as name of the candidates, designation, department, name of the institute, address, date of birth, gender, caste, contact details, academic qualification, employment details, details about the research work, name & address of the host institution, proposed duration of the fellowship (in month), Details of international fellowships availed previously, detailed bio-data of the applicant, Name and Signature of the applicant (Name in Block Letters), date and place.

Documents to be enclosed with the SERB Application Form

The candidates have to attach the following required documents along with the filled application form:

• Bio-data of the candidate
• Acceptance letter of research plan by the host
• Letter of acceptance from the host institution
• Summary of the applicant in excel
• Statement from the employer (only for the employed applicants)

Application Submission

The applicants who are called to apply for the SERB Post Doc Fellowship program for Institution other than the USA can fill the application form online. After filling the application form and attaching the supporting documents, the applicants need to submit 3 printed copies of the filled SERB Post Doc Fellowship application form on both sides of A4 size paper and have to send it before 15 March 2017 to the program coordinator on the address given below:

The candidates who are gained admission to the postdoctoral program in overseas institutions the will be selected for the SERB Post-Doc Fellowship for Institution.  The research work should be undertaken in one or more of the following disciplines:

• Algorithms and Combinatorial Optimisations
• Imaging

Such candidates are required to submit a research proposal in any of the research discipline mentioned above. The conducting body will constitute a committee who will be responsible for selecting the candidates for fellowship. The duration of the SERB Post Doc Fellowship is 1 year but it may be extended for one more year subject to evaluation. Fellowship for less than 6 months will not be considered. however, in exceptional cases, the short period fellowship may be entertained.

Fellowship Bond: The candidates selected for SERB Post Doc Fellowship will have to execute a bond stating that if the fellows complete their program successfully, they would be treated as a grant-in-aid. The bond should also be stating that if the fellows do not come back or discontinue the course in midway, their fellowship will be treated as a loan and the penal interest will also apply in this condition.
