Ramanujan Fellowship 2017

Ramanujan Fellowship 2017 is for brilliant scientists and Engineers from all over the world to take up the scientific research positions in India. Ramanujan Fellowship is basically meant for those scientists who want to return to India from abroad.  

Ramanujan Fellowship is organised by Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). The fellowships are scientist-specific and are very selective and the Ramanujan Fellows can work in any of the scientific institutions and Universities in India.

The Ramanujan Fellows will receive regular grants through the extramural funding schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India. The candidates can apply for Ramanujan Fellowship throughout the year.

• The Ramanujan Fellowship is for the Duration of 5 years.

Ramanujan Fellowship Renewal

Renewal of the Fellowship will depend on the yearly Review of the work of the Ramanujan Fellow done by the Committee Chaired by the Head of the Institute. The head of the Institute will send this review report every year along with the Statement of Expenditure (SE) and Utilization Certificate (UC).

The Ramanujan Fellow will be entitled to the fellowship of Rs. 85,000 (approx) per month and an additional Research Grant of Rs. 7 lakh (approx) per year.

The Fellowship for the Duration of 5 years.

Ramanujan Fellowship can be filled by the eligible candidates through a prescribed format and the approach any scientific institutions and universities in the country to host the Ramanujan Fellowship. The application should be forwarded to the Head of the Host Institute.

Ramanujan Fellowship Nomination Process

The candidates for Ramanujan Fellowship will be nominated by the Host Institution. The Host Institute must fill the nomination form by writing the name of the candidates. The Nomination Form is available throughout the year on the official website of www.serb.gov.in.

Submission of Ramanujan Fellowship Nomination Form

All the nomination in original form and 4 photocopies, duly filled and signed by the Head of the Host Institution need to sent to the following address:

The selection process of Ramanujan Fellows will be made periodically by an empowered Search-cum-Selection Committee specially appointed for this purpose.

The selected Ramanujan fellows can choose to work at any S&T Institution including University Departments or other academic Institutions and National Laboratories in India. The Fellows can choose any of the Institution according to their choice to pursue their research, and other administrative and basic infrastructural support to facilitate research.

• Science and Engineering Research Board will send a letter to the selected individual and to the host institute.
• The candidate has to then send the acceptance letter to the host institute mentioning the month in which he/she wish to start the Fellowship. This acceptance letter will be forwarded by the Institute to SER Board.

Disbursement of Ramanujan Fellowship Grant

As soon as the SERB will receive the Acceptance letter the process for administrative and financial approval will begin followed by the Sanction Order. The Ramanujan Fellow can start his/her Fellowship as soon as the Institute get the Grant Money.

• The release of Grant for the subsequent year will be subject to receiving Statement of Expenditure (SE) and Utilization Certificate (UC).
• The SE and UC have to be sent financial year wise i.e. from April 1 to March 31.  But for the first year, it would be from the Date of Start (DOS) to March 31.
