Here’s good news for all the Class 10 candidates appearing in National talent Search Examination popularly known as NTSE, scheduled to be conducted at State Level on November 8, 2015. The Number of Scholarships will be doubled from 2016 onwards. Presently the numbers of scholarships awarded under this scheme are 1000 and now it has been increased to 2000. The announcement was made by Union Minister of Human Resource Development Smt. Smriti Irani while addressing the people on the occasion of 55th Foundation Day celebration of the NCERT in New Delhi on September 1, 2015.
NTSE is taken by close to 14 Lakh student every year and the students who receives this scholarship is supported by NTSE from Class 11 till the Ph.D level.
Surveys to check Quality in school education
Further while expressing concern about quality in school education, Smriti Irani asked the Director, NCERT to undertake the National Achievement Survey on annual basis for Class 3, 5, 8 and 9. For things to go at a faster pace, she has asked NCERT to submit the plan within a span of one week to the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Setiing up Model Science Labs in Government schools
She also laid emphasis on Government’s intention to set up Model Science Labs in all Government School in every district of the country. She appreciated the initiatives of Rashtriya Avishkar Abhiyan.
Tactile Map Book on Braille released
This is not all, while discussing about the books, she appreciated the books developed by NCERT in Hindi, English, Urdu and Sanskrit for the student and suggested NCERT that they can translate these books in Regional languages too. Tactile Map Book on Braille for Upper Primary students was also released by Smt. Irani. Taking into consideration the newly launched scheme of Digital India she asked NCERT to upload and make sure that all the research work in teachers education is available online.
Ministers said, “NCERT was holding a panel discussion on “Innovations for Promoting Quality in School Education” later in the day and suggested the panel to offer recommendation specially to help students who are slow learners.”
For maintaining high standards of quality education Secretary Department of School Education and Literacy appreciated the yeoman service offered by NCERT.
While addressing the gathering Director, NCERT said that Council has made rapid achievement in last five decades in the field of school education and highlighted recent initiatives of the Ministry of HRD in school education.
