AICTE to close Engineering Colleges with less than 30% Admissions. The All Indian Institute of Technical Education (AICTE) has finally decided to shut down those Engineering Institutes who had less than 30 percent admissions in the Engineering programs. The decision has been taken considering that over 27 lakh seats remain vacant in various colleges in India.
- According to media reports, AICTE will shut down some technical colleges in India which are recorded less than 30% admission in the last 5 years.
- Anil D Sahasrabuddhe, Chairman of the AICTE who was recently attending world education summit said that such colleges will be closed down from the next academic years.
Current Data of the Engineering Institutes
Currently, total 10,361 engineering institutions in India are approved by the AICTE. These engineering institutions have total intake capacity of over 37 lakh students but only 10 lakh seats are filled every year and over 27 lakh seats are lying vacant.
'In the past few years, the ACRE has been actively working on reducing the quantity of engineering institutions across the country due to poor demand and falling quality of education'. as reported in recent PTI Report
ACRE has also reported that the quality of technical education in the country is continuously falling since the past few years.
AICTE Chairman Stated:
The AICTE chairman, Anil D Sahasrabuddhe said "Apart from closing several colleges, we are also focusing on life skills and solving real life problems. The number of jobs is diminishing in the country and to cover that up AICTE has formulated the National Student Start-up Policy." He also said that the AICTE is also reducing the penalty for closing down the engineering institutions.
