Aadhar Card number has been made a compulsion for all Scholarships and fellowships by University Grants Commission (UGC). UGC has decided to link all scholarships and fellowships to Aadhar Accounts, and all the candidates who have applied for the scholarships and fellowships need to provide their Aadhar Card number.
Latest Development: On September 15, 2016, University Grants Commission (UGC) cleared the air on Adhar Card Compulsion. In an official circular, UGC Deputy Secretary said, “Any students who have applied or wishing to apply for scholarship/ fellowship shall not be denied benefit thereof due to non-availability of Aadhaar card”.
UGC has made it compulsory for the students to submit their Unique Identification Number who have applied for scholarships in the year 2017-18 and updated their forms and add their Aadhar Card Number. The students who fail to do so, will not be awarded and their Application will be cancelled. The last date to fill the Aadhar Card Number is August 8, 2016
As per the AICTE notification, "Only such scholarships for which Aadhar numbers are uploaded, verified and seeded to their bank accounts will be processed for payment from September 2016."

UGC Scholarship - Complete List
The UID or Unique Identification number of Aadhar card has been made compulsory keeping in view the increasing effectiveness of the Aadhar Card in India. All the students who want to avail scholarships or fellowship need to have a compulsory Aadhar Card number. According to a statement of a UGC official, he said that the Commission took this decision to link every student’s bank account to their respective Aadhar Card numbers so that they can apply for their scholarships and fellowships with any confused situation. UGC has also advised the Universities and Colleges in India to incorporate this decision very quickly.
To make the proper implementation of this scheme, UGC has asked the Universities for appointing regional officers representing their Universities so that they can help the students and also oversee the working of the Institutions. Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken this important step to provide Aadhar Cards to the Indian Citizens so that they can get all the benefits and other assistance from the different welfare activities run by the Government.
