3 Internship for Engineering Students are Compulsory to grab the degree of the course from 2017-18 onwards. The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) has decided and mandated is for the engineering students to undergo the internships. The HRD Ministry has taken the decision to improve employability in Engineering across the country and make engineering students more skilled. Now each engineering students in the country will have to undergo at least three mandatory internships during their course of the academic year 2017-18 and the responsibility to arrange the internship for the students will be on the colleges.
This decision was taken because more than 50% engineering students remaining unemployed each year. As per the data collected by AICTE from 10,328 technical institutes in the country, only 6.96 lakh students from 15.87 lakh students got jobs through campus placement. Now the teachers of the engineering students will also have to undergo mandatory refresher course annually and failing which the approval of the Institute may be denied. The system of summer internship was only being followed by top engineering colleges in the country.
HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar said “Every student in technical institute should undergo three internships each spanning four to eight weeks before completion of his/her under-graduation course. The responsibility will be on the institute to help students find a suitable industry for the internship. Therefore, it will be wrong to say that more than half of the engineers graduating from technical institutes across the country remain unemployed.”
Meanwhile, each teacher of engineering schools within the country can take up online program offered by the govt. on official internet portals. All engineering teacher can bear Associate in the Nursing annual course on government’s SWAYAM portal (Massive open online course) and can encapsulate all advance in their field.
