BSc Nursing is a four-year Undergraduate regular Nursing course regulated by Indian Nursing Council (INC) and offered by several universities through their affiliated Nursing Colleges. Some nursing colleges offer admission to the candidates on class 12 merit and some conduct entrance examination for BSc Nursing Admission. Apart from BSc Nursing, there is also a related course that is Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) followed by Post Basic Nursing.
Candidates who have passed Class 10+2 in Science Stream with average minimum 45% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English are eligible for the course. For Post, the basic nursing candidate must have passed 10+2 or equivalent and must have obtained a certificate in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) and registered as R.N.R.M with the State Nursing Council.
After completing the BSc Nursing Course, the candidates can work in many domains such as staff nurse, male nurse, assistant nursing superintendent/department supervisor, deputy nursing superintendent, nursing supervisor or ward sister, director of nursing, nursing superintendent, teacher of nursing colleges, community health nurse, military/paramilitary nursing core, railway hospital nursing superintendent, industrial/corporate hospitals nurse, nursing service administrators, overseas/foreign nursing services etc.
Every year the Government Hires 22,000 nurses in India. Even then there is a shortfall of 4 Lakh nurses as per WHO report 2016 and FICCI Report August 2016.
