XAT 2017 Analysis

XAT 2017 Exam Analysis includes the exam pattern, difficulty level of the questions and the section wise analysis. Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) is a pen and paper based test for the screening of the best candidates of India for MBA Admissions across the reputed B-Schools of India.  XAT 2017 exam was conducted on 8 January 2017. XAT 2017question paper pattern was a little different regarding the number of questions as compared to the last year's question paper. The total number of questions this year was 72 as against 78 last year. According to the students appeared in the exam, the exam was very tough, especially the English language and Quantitative Aptitude part were very tough. The XAT Question Paper had five sections which are given below:

• Verbal and Logical Ability
• Decision Making 
• Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation
• General Knowledge
• Essay.

However, the marks of general knowledge and essay will not be used for determining the percentile and cut off at the first stage of selection.

XAT 2017 Exam Question Distribution

XAT 2017 Section-wise Analysis

The XAT 2017 Exam was conducted on 8 January 2017 (Sunday). The XAT Exam was tough as compared to the previous year XAT Exams. The section wise XAT Exam Analysis along with the number of questions asked from each section is given below. So the candidates can check the exam analysis for each subject.

XAT Exam Part I (Section A) Analysis

The Verbal and Logical Ability section were as challenging as the ones in XAT papers seen in the recent years. According to the feedback received by some of the students, we get to know that the verbal and logical ability section was challenging as compared to the previous year XAT papers.

This is, as always, due to the complexity of some of the passages. Some of the non-reading comprehension questions had very close answer choices. The XAT Exam Analysis for the Verbal and Logical Ability is given in the table below:

XAT Exam Part I (Section B) Analysis

In the section B which is Decision Making Ability (DMA), there were total 21 questions asked. All the questions were on decision making; not a single question asked from logical reasoning. The sets had very simple and easily comprehensible data except one that was set on Sabzi-Puri.

• The sets which were easy and average to answer as compared to rest of the sets are given below:
  • Firing a waitress
  • Vimala- the domestic help
  • Shooting, Cricket and Snakes & Ladders
• Some of the sets were not specifically clear and forcing the students to go through the answer choices are given below:
  • Genius Consulting
  • Girirajan – Tamil Food Restaurant
  • College Campus – parking space
  • BINK Management School

The sets mentioned above also had forced the student to go through the answer choices and the given information very critically. Many of the candidates would have avoided these sets entirely or would have answered only selected questions within them.

However, the "Puri-Sabzi" set involves calculation and is complicated. Those who had attempted this set would have answered one question with ease and either wasted a lot of time on the remaining two or skipped them altogether.

XAT Exam Part I (Section C) Analysis

This section was a mixture of both easy and few difficult questions. Some of the questions were tricky and required a deep understanding of the concepts. The section was overall similar in difficulty level to last year’s quantitative ability and data interpretation section.

XAT Part II Analysis

• General Knowledge: Part II consist of General Knowledge which was on familiar lines or a mix of national/international based questions focusing on brands, days, geography, science, etc.

As the section is not used for shortlisting, there will be no cut-off requirement for this section. However, those who scored over 10-12 can consider themselves to have done well. 

• Essay: The topic for the essay was "Globalisation and Jingoism always coexist!".  The topic needed the students to differentiate people and services moving across the globe making the world a much smaller and conjoin space, with people who root for their nation with sheer enthusiasm. 

With about 25 minutes available on hand after the GK section, students were expected to spend around 5-8 minutes gathering their thoughts and the remaining time writing the essay.

XAT Estimated Cut Off
