The article has the list of Top Medical Colleges in India and their admission process. The Top medical colleges in India are regulated by Medical Council of India (MCI) which is a statutory body for implementing high quality of medical education in the country.
MCI presently has 400 Indian Medical Colleges which have the capacity to educate around 50000 students. Top Medical Colleges in India offer courses at both- undergraduate and postgraduate levels. There is a huge gap between the demand and supply of MBBS Seats, every year 6-7 lacs students appear in medical exams for 50,000 seats in the country and that makes it a tough competition.
Medical Admission for MBBS and BDS was based on AIPMT (All India Pre-Medical Test) in some states and colleges but from this year, AIPMT has been replaced by NEET and all the colleges that were accepting AIPMT scores will be now based on NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) according to the order of Supreme Court of India. NEET 2018 will be held on 10 May 2018.
After completing Class 12, the students may go for various degrees like MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, etc. On completing MBBS, the students can further specialise in options open like orthopaedics, forensic, anaesthesia, psychiatry, cardiology, plastic surgery, dermatology, ear, nose throat, radiology and much more. MBBS course is for about four and a half years, followed by an internship for one year, making it to a total of five and a half years programme.
