NTSE Eligibility 2020 is given below for Stage 1 and 2 for candidates willing to apply for NTSE Exam. Every year, NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) is conducted in two stages – stage 1 and 2. NTSE 2020 stage 1 will be conducted by the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT), while NTSE stage 2 will be organized by NCERT. The eligibility for NTSE 2020 for stage 1 are set by each state/UTs. While NTSE eligibility criteria for stage 2 has been prescribed by NCERT. The basic NTSE eligibility criteria such as age, qualification, domicile among others must be fulfilled by aspirants. NTSE Eligibility 2020 Stage 1
Each state/UTs conducts own NTSE 2020 stage 1 examination. Thus, each SCERT has autonomy to lay down their own norms and regulations to determine NTSE eligibility 2020 Stage 1. As mentioned earlier, NTSE 2020 stage 1 will be conducted on 3 November 2020 in Mizoram, Meghalaya, Andaman and Nicobar Island, 18 November in West Bengal and on 4 November in all other states. Aspirants who qualify NTSE stage 1 will be eligible to appear for NTSE stage 2.
- As NTSE stage 1 is conducted by state/UTs, therefore, only Indian Nationals are eligible to appear
- Students studying in class 10 in any type of recognized school including Kendriya Vidyalaya, Navodaya Vidyalaya, Sainik Schools etc. are eligible to appear for NTSE 2020 stage 1 in the state where the school is located
- No NTSE exam eligibility criteria 2020 for domicile has been imposed
- However, the state may impose NTSE eligibility criteria for Stage 1 such as qualifying marks etc. for appearing in the test
NTSE Exam Eligibility for Open School Students
Students who have been registered under Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are also eligible for NTSE 2020 exams, provided, such aspirants, should be below the age of 18 years (as on 1 July of the particular year). Such candidates should not be employed and should be appearing in class 10 for the first time.
NTSE Eligibility 2020 Stage 2
Candidates must note that National Talent Search Examination - NTSE 2020 is open for all students of Indian nationality whether they study class 10 in India or abroad. NTSE Stage 2 Exam is scheduled to be conducted on 12 May 2020. As per the NTSE eligibility, students who will qualify NTSE stage 1 will be eligible for NTSE exam stage 2. Indian Students studying abroad can also apply for NTSE Stage 2. Check NTSE Eligibility 2020 for Stage 2 for Indian nationals and abroad candidates is given below.
NTSE Eligibility for Indian students (Stage 2)
Only candidates who will be selected by the states/UTs on the basis of NTSE Stage 1 result shall be eligible to appear for NTSE Stage 2. There are no other NTSE eligibility norms for appearing in NTSE stage 2 exam. NCERT will conduct NTSE 2020 Stage 2 Exam on 20 May 2020 . The date, time, venue and other important details about the NTSE stage 2 scholarship examinations will be provided soon when NCERT will release it.
NTSE Eligibility for Indian Students Studying Abroad (Stage 2)
Indian Students studying abroad in class 10 can also compete for NTSE exam stage 2 under the following conditions:
- Indian aspirants who are studying in class 10 or equivalent will be exempted from appearing in NTSE stage 1 and can appear directly at NTSE 2020 stage 2
- As per NTSE Eligibility, only candidate who has secured at least 60% marks in aggregate in the previous annual examination will be eligible to appear for NTSE second level examination
- Such candidates can appear for the national level examination at any NTSE exam centre across India at their own cost
- A candidate may request for the mark sheet of class 9 along with an attested copy from the Head of the Institution where they are studying. The request should reach the Head, Department of Educational Survey Division, NCERT, New Delhi – 1100016 latest by 31 December to the concerned year
The council will allot roll numbers to the eligible candidates informing the date, time, venue and other important guidelines. No request for the change of NTSE exam centres will be entertained, except for the genuine reasons. The selected candidates for National Talent Search Examination will be paid scholarship for pursuing studies in India
Other NTSE Eligibility Conditions for Scholarship Disbursement
If a candidate is selected for NTSE Scholarship, the scholarship shall be paid for pursuing studies in India only. No scholarship shall be available for studies abroad for any course.
NTSE Eligibility for Class 8 students
Students looking for NTSE eligibility for class 8 students should be aware of the fact that NTSE is conducted for students studying in Class 10 only. Earlier, NTSE was conducted for both Class 8 and Class 10. In 2011, the NTSE Exam for Class 8 was cancelled. The proposal to scrap NTSE for Class 8 students were approved in July 2012. Now NTSE Exam is conducted for Class 10 students only. Students studying in Class 10 can check stage wise NTSE Eligibility Criteria on this page.
Class 8 students need not worry as there are many other scholarships available for Class 8 students. Students Studying in Class 8 can apply for ANTHE Scholarship or NMMS Scholarship.
About NTSE Exam Stage 1 and 2
NTSE 2020 stage 1 will be conducted by different States/UTs. The state level examination will have two parts – Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholarship Ability Test (SAT). NTSE stage 1 will contain 200 questions and only 240 minutes will be allotted to complete the test. The medium of NTSE first level examination will be announced by the state/UTs. As per the NTSE eligibility mentioned earlier, candidates who will qualify in stage 1 will be eligible to appear for NTSE stage 2. Likewise, stage 1, NTSE national level examination will contain 200 questions for MAT and SAT sections.
