About Swachh Bharat Summer Internship
Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Program (SBSIP) has been launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) along with the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation for registered students of higher educational institutes. The last date for the registration to participate in SBSIP has been extended from 15 May to 15 June 2018. The program aims to engage lakhs of educated youth throughout the country to contribute towards the sanitary related activities. Under Swachh Bharat Summer Internship, the students need to devote at least 100 hours conducting swachhta related activities in villages from 1 May to 31 July 2018. Any student who has been enrolled in Colleges/Universities can participate in the program. The candidates have the freedom to either participate individually or in teams. However, maximum 10 students can participate in a team.
- The best 3 interns will be awarded shields/cups and special certificates, individually or in teams apart from the cash rewards.
- The interns who are found eligible by the parent institution will receive 2 credits on the successful completion of the Swachh Bharat Summer Internship.
Location of Internship Swachh Bharat Summer Internship
The location of internship can be chosen by candidates from the State of Residence to State of Parent Institution. To decide on the location and team size, candidates need to consult with the Nodal Officer.
Training for Swachh Bharat Summer Internship
Interested candidates can go through the orientation videos about sanitation activities in rural context. These videos are available on Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) Youtube channel.

Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Program 2018: Activities
All the swachhta related activities in which candidates can participate under this program are categorized in two clusters:
- Information-Education-Communication (IEC) Activities - These activities are for increasing people's awareness about sanitation-related issues. Here the intern can target open defecation, hygiene practices, solid/liquid waste management etc. Candidates can organize awareness campaigns, perform Nukkad Natak or do other such activities to educate people about swachhta.
- Solid Waste Management (SWM) related Activities- Under SWM interns have to target general awareness about waste management; collection, segregation, disposal and waste-free environment.
- Support in Toilet Construction

Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Reward
A competent authority to be appointed by MHRD will select the awardees at college, university, state and national levels. The best interns so chosen will get shields/cups and special certificates and cash prizes. The best 3 interns will be awarded shields/cups and special certificates, individually or in teams apart from cash rewards.
The winners at the university, state and national levels will get the following Cash prizes along with appropriate certificates.

Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Application form and Process
Applications for Swachh Bharat Sumer Internship are available online only. There is no offline process for registration. To participate in this programme, candidates have to follow the given link and register. After registering, the candidate has to login fill the application form.

Only those applications that are approved by the Nodal Officer at the parent institute will be considered as valid. Once the application form is submitted, the nodal officers will approve the enrollment of participants. After successfully submitting the application form, candidates will have to wait for 2-3 days. Thereafter, an e-mail or SMS alert will be sent to the candidates about his/her enrollment.
What if your Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Application gets rejected?
Candidates whose application for Swachh Bharat Summer Internship gets rejected must log-in the dashboard and check the reason for rejection. Candidate will have to do the needful to revive the application request.
- Once a candidate has become eligible to participate in the program, he/she has to devote minimum 100 hours in the swachhata (cleanliness)-related activities in the rural areas which can be selected by them.
Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Selection Process
There is the following Selection Process of the candidates for SBSIP:
- The candidates will be selected by the competent authority who will be appointed by the Ministry of HRD at each level. The competent authority's decision will be final.
Reporting- On the successful completion of the field-work by the candidate, he/she has to submit a report within 15 days. This report has to be submitted to the online portal in the prescribed format. The Nodal Officer shall review and approve the online report submitted by the candidate before giving certificate and reward.
