Steel City: Container Skyscrapers Architecture Design Competition 2015

• Steel City: Container Skyscrapers Architecture Design Competition invites entries to design a Skyscraper or series of Skyscrapers as a housing solution for the biggest slum area in Asia, known as Dharavi in Mumbai.
• The participants need to submit their Architecture designs of quality, tall construction using used-shipping containers as building modules.
• The competition is open for Architects, Architecture Graduates, Architecture Students, Urban Planners & Designers, Team of Architects or Inter-disciplinary Teams.
• Interested participants need to register themselves on the Super Skyscraper’s website and make online application by making a payment of USD 100.
• Participants can win Cash Prizes of USD 2500, USD 1000 and USD 500 along with 10 special mentions.

Steel City Architecture Design Competition Application Process

The participants willing to participate in the competition, need to register themselves on the SuperSkyScrapers website using their email id. A verification code will be sent to the registered email id, participants can login to their account after completing the verification process and proceed with making online applications for the competition. The details of the Process are as follow:

• Mode of application: The competition will accept entries submitted using its portal designed for the same purpose. Entries will also be accepted by the means of email only in exceptional cases and only after prior information to the related authorities. >> Click here to apply online.
• Minimum Specs: The proposal should incorporate at least the following spaces within each Individual Self-contained Flat as participants are free to decide on the ratio, size and space combination within the program:
  • 1 x Kitchen
  • 1 x Bathroom
  • 1 x Toilet
  • 1 x Living Room
  • 2 x Bedroom
  • 1 x Storage
  • Individual Flat Size: 90 m2 (968.52 sq. ft.)
  • Skyscraper Total Design Area: Open to participants (Replication of the Skyscraper Concept on the site is permitted)
  • Total Plot Size: 9259 m2 (99663 sq. ft.)

• Application Fee: The applicant need to make a payment of the application fee as per the below mentioned criteria:
  • Standard Registration:USD100 US from April 08, 2015 to June 25, 2015
  • Late Registration: USD120 US from June 26, 2015 to July 10, 2015.

Submission of Design

The design need to be submitted on a single sided landscape boards with the details listed below and must be submitted using the online application portal. The details of the Submission are as follow:

• Dimension: 4608 width x 2304 height (pixels) or 48 x 24 inches
• Resolution:  96dpi.
• File Name: The image file name must correspond to your unique registration number provided after successful registration for the competition.
• File Size: Maximum 5MB.

Container Skyscrapers Architecture Design Competition Selection Process

A selected jury panel will review the submitted entries based on the competition objectives and from the shortlisted entries select the competition winners with SuperSkyScrapers consultants overseeing each stage of the deliberation process.

• Evaluation Criteria: Evaluation of the submitted entries will be done on the basis of following criteria and guidelines:
  • Overall architectural vision and design’s aesthetics for a Steel City: The relationship of the design to the built or natural environment around it and 
    • How the design relate to the physical location selected?
    • How the architecture design is placed on the physical site?
  • Innovative design:
    • How the design organizes space?
    • Thoughtful selection of materials:
      • Choice of materials.
      • Effect of the selected materials in enhancing the design.
    • Adherence to the specifications of the competition.
    • Quality and clarity of the model Execution and Presentation: Well-built models that visually represent your design ideas will catch the eye of the judges.
    • Adaptation of present designs, blending and mixing of materials into existing settings.
• Result: The result of the competition will be announced on July 28, 2015.
