About Ratan Tata Fellowship
Sir Ratan Tata Fellowship invites applications from researchers in the field of Social Science who are targeting South Asia. It will be 8 months paid fellowship where the researchers would be given an opportunity to complete their research work. Fellowship is presented by the Sir Ratan Tata Foundation and the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) and it is supported by Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Dr Madhura Swaminathan from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Mumbai was the first fellow who received the Ratan Tata fellowship. The fellowship programme was started in the year 1997-98 and is provided to Post-doctoral researchers working on the subject of Economy and Society in South Asia and particularly focusing on the following subjects:
- Growth and inclusion
- Governance and democracy
- Climate change and environmental sustainability
- Population and development
- Social and human security

Ratan Tata Fellowship Reward
- Stipend: Sir Ratan Tata Post-doctoral Fellowship is will be granted for 8 months in the academic year of 2018-19 with a Monthly allowance of up to £1,500 (Approx. Rs. 1,38,238).
- Office Space & Access to Research Facility: LSE Asia Research Centre (ARC) will be the base of the fellowship and the fellow will be provided with shared office space along with access to the School’s Research Facility.
- Presentation of their Research: An opportunity to complete a research of publishable quality and prepare a presentation at a seminar coordinated by Asia Research Centre.
Ratan Tata Fellowship Application form and Process
There is no separate portal available where the application can be made online, the required documents can be scanned and emailed to the given Email Id. The candidates are suggested to use only A4 size paper and do not staple the application form.
The application can be emailed to india.observatory@lse.ac.uk or can be submitted via post at the given address before 23 April 2018 to the address given towards the end of the page. The application must be enclosed with the following documents:
- A curriculum vitae (Max 3 pages)
- A cover letter (Max 1 page)
- A brief description of proposed research works to be undertaken.
- Names and Addresses of two references, which are familiar with their work and will be contacted by the Committee.

Ratan Tata Fellowship Selection Process
The decision regarding the final selection will be made by The Fellowship Selection Committee. The selected candidate will be informed by the end of July 2018 regarding the decision. The candidates should know that the decision of the committee in selecting the candidates will be final and no objection in this regard will be considered.
