About Video Story Contest – It Happens Only in India
Scroll Video Story Contest is a video contest on the theme It Happens Only in India. It is jointly organised by Scroll.in and Deutsche Welle (DW) for the people who love to tell the story through a visual medium.This video contest is an effort to document the balance and disorder, the love and hate, the chaos and calm through the stories of compassion, prejudice, new and old traditions, bravery, identity, injustice, or anything that makes India, great India.
Anyone can participate in the competition by submitting the YouTube link of a video captured by her/him. Through Video Story Contest – It Happens Only in India, the organisers argue to find an interesting story around us and capture it using phone camera or pocket camera and showcase it to the world.
This video contest can be the platform for the people who want to showcase interesting story through video. The online application can be submitted from 17 March 2017 to 30 May 2017.

Video Story Contest – It Happens Only in India Reward
The top entry will be appreciated through the prize. The prize money will be distributed as per the details mentioned below:

Video Story Contest – It Happens Only in India Application form and Process
The candidates can participate in the Video Story Contest based on the theme “It Happens Only in India” by submitting an application form only through online mode. The participants can submit the application form on the official website of conducting body Scroll.in at https://www.scrolldwcontest.com from 17 March 2017 to 30 May 2017. To submit the video the participants have to follow the instruction given below:
Registration Closed
- Upload Video: First, the participants have to upload their film on YouTube and ensure that the title slide and end slide have been added in the Video. After uploading the candidates have to use the private link of the uploaded video.
- Fill Online Application Form: Now the candidates have to fill the online application form. The candidates have to enter the details like name, email id, a private link of video uploaded on YouTube, the title of the video film, the message of the film (optional).
After successful submission, the candidates will receive a confirmation email with next steps.Communication will be made to the registered participants of video story contest ‘It Happens Only in India’ through registered email ID and contact number.
Video Criterion
Video story based on the theme “It Happens Only in India” should be under the following criterion:
- The video story can be made in any language but it is mandatory to include English subtitle in the video. The Video story should not be a fiction work.
- Each video story should not be more than 5 minutes in total duration, including titles and credits. Each video story must have titles and credits and the maximum duration of the credit should be of 60 seconds.
- The participants are not allowed to use any footage that has been shot outside of the allocated film project during 17 March to 30 May 2017.
- Still photograph can be used if it has been taken from a third party. However, the source must be mentioned on the credit list. To enhance the film, the participants can use Additional images, graphics, music, background score or material but it should be royalty-free content.
- Music: The music/ background score in the film should be royalty free to avoid any copyright issue.
- Animation and special effects are allowed to use in the story video but it should be created during the allotted film project duration.
- Copyrights: The right of each video entry will belong to the organizers of ‘It Happens Only in India’ video story contest. Organisers will share worldwide rights to the finished videos but the videos will not be used for any commercial purposes.
Video Submission Guidelines
Each entry must follow the overall video structure outlined below in the same order:
- Three seconds of black screen.
- Title slide (mandatory to use the template provided below) for 3 seconds.
- Name of the participant(s) and Title of the film in 3-4 seconds.
- Three seconds of black screen
- Final film
- Three seconds of black screen.
- Credits (maximum of 60 seconds).
- End slide (mandatory to use the template provided by clicking the button at the end of this section).
Video Story Contest Application Submission
The candidates can participate in the Video Story Contest based on the theme “It Happens Only in India” by submitting an application form only through online mode. The participants need not send the video via post. The participants are advised to visit our website for further updates related to the Video Story Contest.
Video Story Contest – It Happens Only in India Selection Process
The entries will be evaluated in 2 rounds that are Elimination Round and Final Round. Elimination Round will be conducted by the organizer of the contest and the Final Round will be evaluated by a special Jury. The member of Jury will be famous names like Naresh Fernandes (Founding Editor of Scroll.in), Kiran Rao (Film Producer, Screen Writer, and Director) and Esther Felden (Web video Producer, Deutsche Welle).
Elimination Round (Selection of Top 25)
The top 25 stories will be shortlisted out of all the submission. The shortlisted participants will be notified through registered email ID and contact number.
Final Round
Category A: The top 25 shortlisted entries will be now evaluated and judged by the Jury. Top 2 entries will be selected for the first and second prize. These top 2 prizes will be awarded by the Jury.
Category B: The 25 shortlisted entries (except 1st & 2nd prize winner) will be invited to compete for the Popular Choice Prize.
- To be eligible for the award, the participants should share their films on Facebook with #ItHappensOnlyinIndia. The post should be made public on Facebook so that it is accessible to the review team.
- The participants should try to get maximum interaction on Facebook as likes, share, and comments.
