About RMO 2019
RMO 2019 is an Olympiad conducted to test the mathematical and analytical skills of the students. RMO full form is Regional Mathematical Olympiad and it is organized by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). RMO will be held in all the regions on 20 October. RMO is a three-hour exam which contains six problems. Based on the RMO exam, up to 30 students from Classes 8,9,10,11 and up to 6 students from Class 12 from each region are selected for Stage 3 (INMO). Get complete details on RMO 2019 on this page.
On the basis of the performance in PRMO, approximately 300 students from Classes 8,9,10,11 and approximately 60 students from class 12 have been selected to participate in RMO from each of the regions other than KV and JNV.
For KV and JNV the quota will be approximately the top 5% of KV/JNV students who appeared for the PRMO 2019 exam from classes 8 to 11 and top 1% from class 12. All students who have the same score as the cutoff score for the region are considered eligible.
- The selected students will appear in Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO). This should be done after completing re-evaluation (provision for which is mandatory).
- RMO Olympiad will be conducted on a small number of centres in the region only for PRMO qualified students.
- Students should Practise RMO Question Papers of Previous years

RMO 2019 Selection Process
From each region, Top 300 students from class 8, 9, 10 & 11 and (up to) Top 60 students from class 12 who qualified in a machine-correctable test will be selected to write the Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO) exam. For the Kendriya Vidyalas and Jawahar Nehru Vidyalaya, the number to be selected is up to 5 per cent from Classes 8,9,10,11 and up to 1 per cent from Class 12, of the number of registrations.
Here is the process in detail as shown in the picture below:
RMO 2019 Selection Details
RMO is not an individual scholarship, it is the second stage of the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). Hence, the students who have successfully qualified the Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) are only eligible to participate in this round of selection for International Mathematical Olympiad.
RMO 2019 Result
RMO 2019 Result will be declared on or before 6 December 2019 by Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBSCE). The students can check the result by following the link below. The regional coordinators would have to send the final list of selected students to HBCSE by 30 November 2019. Only then, the results of RMO for all the regions will be declared by HBCSE on or before 6 December 2019.
The regional coordinators must have to inform the students personally of their performances to make them enable to apply for re-evaluation. To request for the re-evaluation, the participants will be given a period of 10 days to submit the request for re-evaluation. The students can check RMO 2019 Result here >>> RMO Result 2019.
RMO Exam Pattern and Syllabus 2019
The syllabus of Mathematical Olympiad will be based on Class 11 and 12, although the problems under each topic involve a high level of difficulty. The level of the exam will get tougher as per the stages. The difficulty level increases from RMO to INMO to IMO. The Olympiad will include the following topics:
Arithmetic of integers |
Inequalities |
Geometry |
Elementary Combinatorics |
The system of Linear Equations |
Probability Theory & Number Theory |
Permutations and Combinations |
Finite Series and Complex Number |
The factorisation of Polynomial |
Elementary Graph Theory |
Students can also check RMO Question Paper to practice the subjects mentioned above. By practising through such paper, students will get an idea of the trend that is being followed in such olympiads. It also helps the student in analysing their own performance and identification of weak areas.
