Jean Monnet Fellowships for 2017-18

Jean Monnet Fellowship is a fully paid fellowship and is offered for one or two year by The Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies to post-docs in an early stage of their academic career. The fellowship is for those who wish to do post-doctoral research at Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies, Italy. Jean Monnet Fellowship is conducted by Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.

• It is renewable after one year and scholars who have obtained their doctorate more than 5 years prior to the start of the fellowship, i.e. September 1, 2017, for the academic year 2017-18 can apply.
• The Fellowship programme is open to post-docs who have a good knowledge of English, tenure-track academics and those wishing to spend their time at the Robert Schuman Centre
• The Centre offers up to 20 Fellowships a year.

Residence: Selected Fellows are required to live in Florence or the duration of their Fellowship so that they actively participate in the academic activities of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies.

Grant; Selected fellows are paid basic grant is € 2,500 per month. If you are a beneficiary of any other grants or salaries then bring it to the notice of EUI, as the amount of the fellowship will be fixed at a lower rate depending on the additional income.

Family Allowance: A household allowance of € 300 per month is paid to fellows with a partner when the partner lives with the fellow in Florence and on the condition that the partner's income does not exceed € 2,000 per month

Dependents Allowance: Fellows will get dependants allowance of € 200 per month for each dependent child living with the fellow in Florence.

• Kindly Note: Fellows are entitled to these allowances subject to that they are not receiving any similar allowance from another source and upon production of relevant documents
• For dependent children in full-time education and over the age of 18, a school or university certificate is required. 

Taxation: Fellows themselves have to comply with any tax provisions applicable to them.

Medical Insurance: Fellows must have adequate medical insurance cover during their stay at the Institute. Candidates can also subscribe to the EUI's private sickness and health insurance scheme at their own expense.

Travel Expenses: Fellows (but not their families) receive reimbursement for one return trip from their home town to Florence.

• first-class rail (travel by car is also reimbursed on this basis)
• Economy class air fare
• The maximum amount for travel reimbursement is €1,200 for return travel.

Publication: The research done during the fellowship should lead to a publication, either as an EUI Working Paper, or in a scientific journal, or with a reputable academic publisher.

There are two distinct phases in the application process:

• Submission Process: Once you have registered your application, continue to work on the application details and attachments until the deadline of October 25, 2015.
  • Submit the application only when all the information has been furnished is true to your knowledge and the final version of the attachments has been successfully uploaded.

• A letter of motivation of 1-2 pages in PDF Form
• A research proposal of 2-4 pages in PDF Form
• Letter of References

LETTER OF REFERENCES

Candidates have to provide the names of two academic referees and ensure that the letters of reference are submitted online directly by the referees by the deadline October 25, 2015

Once the candidate has registered the details of their referees, each referee will receive an e-mail with access details for submitting their reference letter online

• References should be submitted as PDF files and as per the above mentioned specifications for the documents
• Do not send a hard copy.
• References can be written in any language other than English, but English will guarantee the widest possible reading 
• References from current full-time or part-time EUI professors will not be accepted.

Candidates are selected by the Academic Staff of the RSCAS and their nomination needs to be approved by the Executive Committee of the EUI.

Candidates are selected on the fulfilling of the following criteria:

• The CV of the applicant
• The overall scientific quality of the proposal
• The research proposal should fit well with one of the Centre’s main research themes, programmes and projects

• The three main research themes of the RSCAS are:
  • Integration, Governance and Democracy;
  • Regulating Markets and Governing Money; and
  • 21st Century World Politics and Europe.
• This decision is final and not subject to appeal.
• In case a reserve list is drawn up, places can be offered to reserve candidates if selected candidates do not accept the offer of a fellowship.
