ICCC International Student Design Competition

• UN-HABITAT and International Council for Caring Communities’ (ICCC) are organizing ICCC International Student Design Competition based on the theme “Integrated Communities: A Society For All Ages”.
• Participants need to analyses a particular neighborhood and come up with a project which present solution to the various problems faced by the elderly people. The project can be an intervention, a building or a group of buildings.
• ICCC International Student Design Competition is open for students enrolled in their Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies in fields related to Architecture.
• There is no participation fee for ICCC International Student Design Competition and no restriction is there on the age of the candidates unless he is a student enrolled in Undergraduate or Postgraduate studies in fields related to Architecture.
• The winner will be awarded with prize of USD 10000 (Approx. 641,000 INR).
• Participants need to go for online registration before September 15, 2015 and the submission of the projects can be done by December 01, 2015.

ICCC International Student Design Competition Rewards     

As the program is open for individual as well as group participants, so all the prizes will be offered to Groups as well as Individuals, which means 2 winners of First, Second and Third Prizes. The details of the awards are as follow:

• First Prize: The amount of USD 10,000 (approx. 641,000 INR) 
• Second Prize: The amount of USD 5,000 (approx. 320,000 INR)
• Third Prize: The amount of USD 2,500 (approx. 160,000 INR)

ICCC International Student Design Competition Application Process

In order to participate in the Competition, participants are required to register online and after registration the hard copies of the projects are to be submitted by post.

Applicants need to identify and analyze a particular location either urban, suburban or rural, provided that it contains older people. Based on an analysis of a real situation, the context should provide a clear framework for the design concept and its aesthetic interpretation. The details of the application process are as follow:

• Mode of application: The registration can be done by filling the online registration form and the entries need to be submitted by post. >> Click here to Register.
• Details of the project: The projects are to be designed by keeping in mind the requirements of elderly people. The following key points are to be kept in mind while making the project:
  • Location: Strategic placement of facilities for older people within walking distance where older persons can contribute and be engaged.
  • Connectivity: Establishment of physical and possibly electronic connectivity to amenities and services.
  • Symbiosis: Matching of talents and interests of older people and needs of society.
  • Dignity: Uphold and preserve the personal rights and personal domain regardless of any reduction in faculties.
  • Access: Availability of essential services such as healthcare, food, educational facilities, recreational areas, social services and transportation.
  • Security: Provide a sense of safety in physical and psychological terms.

Submission of Entries

Once the participants has registered online as per the deadline mentioned, they can submit the project by December 1, 2015.  The project can be submitted on a DVD or flash drive along with small format (11” x 17” half size of the original boards) color print of the project boards. The DVD or flash drive must have the following on it:

• Project Boards: Four 22” x 34” (A1) boards that can be printed at high resolution for final judging.
  • Details on board:
    • Board 1: Analysis of existing neighborhood. Suggested scale: 1” = 40’ or 1:500.
    • Boards 2 and 3: Should describe he design solution with relevant plans, sections, elevations, suggested scale (1/8” = 1’ or 1:100) and three-dimensional images of the project. Images may include perspectives, sketches or photographs of three-dimensional models.
    • Board 4: Should be used to further illustrate the design concept in vignettes, sketches, perspectives or detailed photographs of models.
  • Resolution: 6600 pixels x 10200 pixels at 300 pixels per inch.
  • Orientation: All boards are to be vertically oriented.

• Project Statement: A printed one-page statement summarizing intent, thought, explanation and critical programmatic and architectural features. The statement and all notations on boards must be in English to facilitate understanding by the jury.
• Short Film:  A dynamic presentation, video or animation of maximum duration 2 min can also be included in the DVD or flash drive.
• Affidavit of Originality: Participants must submit a signed copy of Affidavit of Originality for the purpose of identification of the entry.
• Submission: Each envelope must contain student name or names, telephone number, e-mail address and student university identification number of each participant, as well as the name, faculty advisor, full address, email, or fax number of institution.The entries are to be submitted on the below mentioned address by the means of Post or courier:

NOTE: Participants should not put their name or any other identification mark anywhere on the front of the board, and the name of the participant should not be used anywhere in the project. Failure to comply with it will result in the disqualification of the entry.

ICCC International Student Design Competition Selection Process

• The decision regarding the winners will be taken by an International Jury, which will have distinguished gerontologists, academics, architects, urban planners and U.N. Representatives.
• After the decision on the winners by the jury, notifications will be sent to the participants as well as their respective institution informing about the award.
• Other participants will also be notified about the result and will be encouraged to attend Urban Futures: New Mindsets” High-Level Working Session at United Nations Headquarters to be organized in February 2016.
