Honjo International Foreign Students’ Scholarship 2017

• Honjo International Scholarship Foundation offers Foreign Students’ Scholarship to Foreign candidates who wish to study in a graduate school at a Japanese university for a Master's or Ph.D.
• The students applying for this scholarship must be registered to attend or applying for a graduate school starting from April 1, 2016.
• Japanese Language Requirement: To avail the scholarship one must know how to read, write and converse in Japanese language as candidates are required to converse in Japanese during the interview. Also while filling the application form some documents have to be either hand written or typed in Japanese.
• Number of Scholarships available: 15 to 20.

Honjo International Foreign Student's Scholarship 2017 Important Dates

The payment of the scholarship money will be issued starting from April, 2016

• The period of the scholarship is based on the shortest period of time required to complete the intended degree.
• Candidates once awarded the scholarship will be able to choose one option out of the three mentioned below
  • ¥200,000 per month for1 or 2 years
  • ¥180,000 per month for 3 years
  • ¥150,000 per month for 4 or 5 years
• Travel expenses for attending an international conference, etc. will be provided to scholarship students.
• Candidates who receive the scholarship are under no obligation to repay the amount they receive from the Foundation.

Conditions for Award of the Honjo International Scholarship

• The candidate is not permitted to receive any other scholarship in conjunction with this scholarship
• While receiving this scholarship candidate cannot gain employment other than part-time jobs related to their studies.
• Candidates have to participate in events conducted by Honjo International Scholarship Foundation to avoid monthly interviews.

Candidates have to fill in the Application form available at the official website and get their Application Number. Application Form available are also written in Japanese

• Applications will be accepted between September 1, 2016, and October 31, 2016.
• Thereafter write down the application number on the application form

Enclosures to be sent along with the Application form

• Academic Records: Mark Sheet of the Undergraduate Course issued by the University
  • Any other courses that you are currently taking or have taken in the past
• Research plan: In Japanese, describe focusing around following four points
  • an outline of your research
  • projected schedule between now and graduation
  • plans and goals for the future
  • Research you have conducted in the past
    • Kindly Note: There is no limit on the number of pages or style. Either typed or hand-written is available.
• One recommendation letter from a professor
• A certificate of enrollment or a letter of admission
• Scholarship application form; make sure to attach your photo to the form as instructed.
• Your resume
• Personal information form
• Resume: Candidates have to download the resume and Personal information form  and fill them in Japanese by typed or hand-written Academic transcript, One recommendation letter from a professor and A certificate of enrollment or a letter of admission should either be in Japanese OR English

• First selection: The first selection will be conducted with documents submitted by applicants. The results of the first selection will be announced by January 31, 2017 as the awarded candidates’ application numbers will be put on our website.
• Second selection: Interviews will be conducted between February 1 and 15, 2017, in Tokyo. Its detailed schedule will be communicated at a later date directly to those who passed the first step of the selection process.
• Scholarship awarded: Mid-March, 2017.
