The Google Science Fair is an online science competition sponsored by Google, LEGO Education, National Geographic, Virgin Galactic and Scientific American. The competition is open for students of 13 to 18 years of age around the globe, who formulate a hypothesis, perform an experiment and present their results.

 All students must have an internet connection and a free Google Account to participate as the projects are submitted through Google Sites in English, German, Italian, Spanish, French and few languages added this year are Arabic, Hebrew, Polish, Japanese, Russian, Turkish, Portuguese, Korean, or Chinese (simplified or traditional). Students can participate either as an individual or as part of a group consisting of up to three members.

Categories for Participation: Google will assign each entrant into an Age Group as follows:

• 13-15 years

• 16-18 years

and one of the following three Regions as follows:

• The Americas,
• APAC (Asia, Pacific)
• Europe/Africa/Middle East.

Entries will be divided into Age and Regional categories during the Regional Finalists phase of the competition.

The students can submit the project in any of the following fields as the main topic and maximum two sub-topics:

Google Science Fair 2019 Project Submission

The student wanting to participate in Google Science Fair 2019 can register themselves online. Google Science Fair 2019 registration has started from 13 September and will last till 12 December 2019. Candidates are advised to register as soon as possible to book their place. For Google Science Fair 2019 registration, it is compulsory to have a Gmail account. How to Submit Google Science Fair Project 2019

Students can follow the guide given below to register for Google Science Fair 2019

• Step 1: Log in using the Gmail ID in order to register
• Step 2: Click here to fill the online form for Google Science Fair 2019 registration
• Step 3: Send your entries before the last date i.e. 12 December 2019

Note: Consent from the Parents/Guardian is required before submitting the project.

Google Science Fair Prizes

Grand Prize: The Grand Prize winner will be awarded $50,000 as scholarship funding. If the winner is a team, the scholarship amount will be divided among the members.

Finalist Prizes: There will be 20 global Finalist prizes which include:

• A trip to Mountain View, CA, the USA  to participate in the finalist event in July 2019
• A LEGO Education goodie bag
• Virgin Galactic goodie bag
• 12 Month subscription from Scientific American
• 12 Month subscription from National Geographic

Google Science Fair Awards

Along with the prizes, the participants will also be given various awards as mentioned below

Scientific American Innovator Award (in the pure science category)

• Scholarship: Funding of $15,000 offered to the winner by Scientific American.
• One year of mentorship for developing the winner’s project and education
• The winner, along with a parent or guardian, will also get a chance to take a Scientific American Cruise

Google Technologist Award (computer science and/or math category)

• Scholarship: The winner will receive funding of $50,000 from Google

The National Geographic Explorer Award: (Natural Sciences category)

• The winner will receive a year-long mentorship and $15,000 educational scholarship.
• 18-day National Geographic Expedition to the Galapagos Archipelago, which is known as “Darwin’s living laboratory”, with a parent/guardian.

The LEGO Education Award: (Engineering category)

• The winner will receive a year-long mentorship and $15,000 educational scholarship.

• Visit the LEGO Group headquarters in Billund, Denmark with a parent/guardian to meet LEGO Education designers and employees.

The Virgin Galactic Pioneer Award (Space and Physics category)

• The winner will receive a year-long mentorship and $15,000 educational scholarship.

• A tour of Virgin Galactic facilities and meet the engineers of the Virgin Galactic.

The Inspiring Educator Award

• Gift Card from LEGO Education: $5000 gift card for educational products.

The Project will be judged in one of the two different age groups (13 -15 years, 16-18 years), in case of an individual or based on the age of the oldest team member, in the case of a team.

Entries will be judged according to the following category:

• Experimenting Category: Behavioral & Social Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental, Flora & Fauna, Food Science
• Engineering Category: Astrophysics, Energy & Space, Physics, Electricity & Electronics, Inventions & Innovations, Robotics, Computer Science & Math

Google Science Fair Selection Criteria

Entries will be judged on eight core criteria, which include the

1. Summary
2. Student's presentation
3. Question/Proposal
4. Research
5. Methods/Testing and Redesign
6. Results
7. Conclusion/Report and Bibliography
8. References & Acknowledgement.

It is to be noted that optional additional to Summary is a two(2) minute video (YouTube only) OR a slide show (Google slides only) with a maximum of 20 slides.

Selection of 100 Regional Finalists

• Up to 100 Regional Finalists, Up to eight (8) per age group (13-15 and 16-18) in each of the three (3) Regions (EMEA, APAC, US) from each of the two (2) Categories (Experimenting and Engineering), plus two (2) Wild Cards* from each Category.
• *A Wild Card is determined based on the following requirements: After the selection of the top thirty-two (32) Regional Finalists from each of the three (3) regions, the next two (2) highest scoring Entries from each Category, regardless of age group or region, will be selected as Wild Cards.

Selection of 20 Global Finalists

• Twenty (20) Global Finalists: Four (4) Winners from each of the two (2) age groups within each of the two (2) Categories (Experimenting & Engineering) will compete for the Category Awards.
• Two (2) Wild Cards from each Category, will compete for the Category Awards.
• *A Wild Card is determined based on the following requirements: After the selection of the top sixteen (16) Global Finalists, the next two (2) highest scoring Entries from each Category, regardless of age group or region, will be selected as Wild Cards.

Selection of Winner

The twenty (20) Global Finalists will be awarded the Global Finalist Prize, a trip to Google Headquarters in Mountain View, CA to participate in the final Winner selection to be held July- August 2019.
