About Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Challenge Awards
- Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Challenge Awards is a competition organized by National Innovation Foundation (NIF) to identify and encourage the real grass root innovators of our society.
- Anyone without restriction of occupation or qualification can participate in any or all of the challenges specified by NIF:
- Challenge 1: Developing a manual paddy transplanter.
- Challenge 2: Developing a fuel efficient wood/biomass stove.
- Challenge 3: Developing a tea plucking device.
- The participants are required to submit a working model of their design in order to be considered in the final round of judging.
- Prize: The winner of the competition will get cash prize worth Rs. 17.5 lakhs
- The submitted models will be tested by National Innovation Foundation and the decision regarding winner will be made.
- Participation: The submission needs to be done at the address mentioned below before December 31, 2015.

Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Challenge Awards 2015 Rewards
For every challenge, three winners will be selected and will be rewarded with the following prizes:
- First Prize: The winner of the first prize will get a cash prize of Rs. 10 lakh.
- Second Prize: Cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh will be given to the winner of the second prize.
- Third Prize: The third prize winner will get a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh.

Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Challenge Awards Application Process
In order to participate in Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Challenge Awards 2015, the participants are required to work on any of the below mentioned three challenges and complete their submission prior to December 31, 2015. The details of the challenges are:
- Challenges: Participants can submit one or more entries for any challenges. Participants can submit their entries for more than one challenge. The details of the challenges are:
- Challenge 1: Developing a manual paddy transplanter
- The transplanter needs to be easy to operate, maintain, easy to carry as well as cost effective.
- The transplanter needs to be at least 3 times more effective than human effort.
- It needs to be usable for different kind of soils with minor modifications.
- Challenge 2: Developing a fuel efficient wood/biomass stove
- The stove should have an efficiency greater than 50 % and should be capable of using multiple kinds of fuels such as different kinds of fuel woods, biomass etc.
- It needs to be compact so that it can be used in a small household.
- The smoke emission needs to be low and the material should be easily available throughout the country.
- Challenge 3: Developing a tea plucking device
- The device needs to be ergonomic, manual/semi-automatic, easy to operate and maintain.
- The device should be at least 3 times more effective as compared to human effort.
- The height of the device needs to be adjustable with a provision of attaching tea collecting bags with it.
- It should be able to move between rows of the tea plant.
- Challenge 1: Developing a manual paddy transplanter
- Submission of the Entries: For the final consideration of the awards, a working model would be required and no financial support will be provided for making the model.
- In very few cases where the participant is grassroots innovators, farmers, mechanic, students (up to class 12), financial support may be provided but the decision rests with NIF.

Gandhian Inclusive Innovation Challenge Awards Selection Process
- All the submitted designs will be tested by NIF for efficiency, emissions, and other mandatory tests at appropriate laboratories and/or by the actual users.
- The participants can get their product evaluated at their own and send feedback from the actual users of the product.
- The final decision will be based upon the Award Committee.
