About Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award
The Poetry Society, United Kingdom invites young poets to participate in Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2018 which is world's Largest literary competition. Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award 2018 is for young poets in the age group of 11-17 years. There is no entry fee and the entries can be submitted online as well as offline on or before 31 July 2018. The participants can choose any theme and submit any length of the poem in the English Language.
- Last year the competition received over 6000 entries from more than 80 countries.
- The poetry competition will be judged by prize-winning poets and total 100 winners (15 top winners + 85 commented) will be selected and they will get mentorship, Goodies, Books as well as invitation to attend the award ceremony to be held in October 2018. The entries can be submitted till midnight 31 July 2018, and the winners will be announced in the month of September 2018.

Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award Reward
Out of the entries received, 100 winners will be selected. 15 of them will be Top Winners and remaining 85 will be Commended winners. The details of the prizes are as follow:
- Publication: Top 15 winners will have their poems published in Winners’ Anthology along with names of all the 85 Commended winners.
- 20,000+ of Winners’ Anthologies are sent out across the United Kingdom and beyond.
- Mentoring Course: The Top 15 winners will be invited to Arvon Centers to attend a week-long residential course OR a leading poet will give them a short residency in their school followed by distance mentoring.
- Subscription: All the winners will get 12 months’ Youth Membership and the opportunity to contribute to the Young Poets Network Digital Platform.
- Ceremony Invitation: All the winners will be invited to attend a prestigious Award Ceremony in London on the occasion of National Poetry Day in October.
- The winners will have to cover their International Travel expenses.
- Books: All the winners will get books published by Faber & Faber, Forward Arts Foundation, Bloodaxe Books, Picador, Walker Books, Frances Lincoln, Macmillan Children’s Books, Inpress Books, Puffin, Seren, and tall-lighthouse.
- Support and Encouragement: All the 100 winners will be provided with ongoing support and encouragement from the Poetry Society in the form of publication, performance and internship opportunities.
- Goodies: Divine Chocolate will supply extra goodies for the winners.
Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award Application form and Process
The applications for Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award can be made by both modes i.e. online as well as offline. The applicants can download the form, fill it and send by the means of the post or can submit their entries online using the website. The details of the Poem and submission process are as follow:
Specifications of the Poem: The poem needs to follow the below-mentioned standards in order to be eligible to participate in the awards:
- Language: The Poem needs to be in English only.
- Theme: There is no specific theme for the awards, candidates can submit whatever they have written in school, home or from their own imagination.
- Word Limit: There is no word limit applicable for the work being submitted.
- Number of Entries: Individuals participating in the contest can submit any number of entries but they are advised to submit 4-6 poems which they consider as their best.

The entries can be submitted Online as well as Offline. The details of the submission process are as follow:
- Online Submission: The contestants are required to visit the official website and complete the formalities related to form submission, once done with form filling they can proceed with the submission of their poem.

Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award Selection Process
- The Poet Judges are Caroline Bird and Daljit Nagra for this year.
- The result of the awards will be made public in the month of September 2018 and individual notifications will be sent to the successful candidates only.
- Venue and exact date of result declaration are yet to be announced. The winners will have to provide a biography, photograph and permission form.
