About BASE Fellowship
BASE Fellowship & Internship Program 2019: The Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India invites application from students pursuing PhD in Science, Engineering & Technology. Bhaskara Advanced Solar Energy is referred to as BASE. The main objective of the BASE fellowship program is to provide an opportunity to the brightest Indian students and scientists to gain exposure and access to world-class research facilities in leading U.S. institutions. The fellowship program has been developed to foster contacts between students and scientists from India and the United States. The Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India through its Solar Energy Research Initiative, and the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) provide an opportunity to the Indian students and scientists.
The total number of fellowships and internships provided to the Indian students and scientists are given below.

The above numbers are tentative and can be increased, decreased or interchanged in either category at the discretion of the Department of Science and Technology and Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum.
BASE Fellowship 2019 - Categories of Research
The list provided below is the list of broad categories for research (indicative list). Preference will be given to research aimed at addressing India-centric issues related to Solar Energy.
- Solar Photovoltaics
- Solar Thermal
- Grid Interaction including Smart Grids
- Energy storage
- System Development and Integration
- Other (any other related area in Solar Energy)

BASE Fellowship Reward
The candidates will get the following benefits under BASE Internship and Fellowship Program 2019.
For Internship/Fellowship
- Monthly Stipend
- Return Airfare
- Contingency allowance
Duration of the program
- Internship: Minimum 3 months and up to 6 months
- Fellowship: Minimum 3 months and up to 12 months

The instruction to fill out and submit the application form is given below. Candidates can download the application format by following the link.
- Candidates are encouraged to submit the application along with supporting documents as a single MS Word/pdf document.
- Applications should be forwarded by the Head of the Department/Institute.

Documents to be enclosed
Please ensure to attach the following enclosures with the application form:
- Acceptance letter from host institutes in the United States.
- Two recommendation letters from Referees.
- Letter of Endorsement/No-Objection Certificate, as per the format indicated on Page 6 of the application form, from the Head of the parent Institution.

- Candidates are encouraged to submit the application along with supporting documents as a single MS Word/pdf document.
- The application should not be more than 20 pages including CVs

Candidates should ensure to attach the following enclosures with the application form
- Acceptance letter from host institutes in the United States.
- Letter of Endorsement/No-Objection Certificate, as per the format indicated on Page 6 of the application form, from the Head of the parent Institution.
Submission of BASE Fellowship & Internship 2019 Application
Candidates are advised to check the details of the duly filled application form before the final submission. Candidates need to keep at least two copies of the application form with them for future reference. No hard copies will be sent the to The Department of Science and Technology office
