Andreu World International Design Contest 2017

Andreu World SA launches its “Andreu World International Design Contest.”. The competition is open both to design students and to professionals without age limit. In order to participate in the Andreu World International Design Contest, the contestants have to design an item of furniture (seat or table) that integrates all the specifications outlined by Andreu World, SA in the product briefing and which resolves the accompanying technical and formal challenges in the terms indicated

Selected candidates will be felicitated in an Award Ceremony scheduled to be conducted in December 2017.

The following prizes will be awarded:

• 1st prize of 3000 euros (4,000 US$)
• 2nd prize of 1000 euros (1,500 US$)
• The jury will also award up to a maximum of 4, non-monetary, special mentions.
  
  

Andreu World Return of projects 

The works submitted may be back by their authors as of February 1, 2017, and till February 28, 2017, from the Andreu World, S.A. premises:

In order to participate, contestants must design an item of furniture seat or table as per the following specifications

Specifications

• The model should be scaled at 1:5
• It should be a proportional reproduction smaller than the actual chair or table design size.
• Seating: The main material used shall be Beech wood, Oak wood or Walnut. Chairs may be upholstered to a greater or lesser extent, if considered appropriate and veneered board or plywood.
• Tables: The main material used shall be Beech wood, Oak wood or Walnut. Tables may be veneered board or plywood.
• The use of other materials such as metals, plastics, glass, etc. is allowed when complementary, structural or incidental to the above.
• All designs presented shall be new, not having been marketed or disclosed prior to the date of the Contest.

Other Specifications 

• Possible innovative features related to design, quality, technology, production processes, etc. and in general anything that adds value to the presented project.
• Possible adaptation to the product philosophy of Andreu World, S.A.
• Production costs and/or recovery.
• Functionality: fulfilment of the functions for which it has been designed.
• All-round simple and viable mass production possibilities.
• Possible versatility and suitability for development in occasional pieces such as stools, easy chairs, sofas, etc. in the case of chairs, and of different sizes and heights in the case of tables.
• Suitability to numerous ambiences and uses such as the home, contract work, etc.

Important Points 

• Candidates can send more than one project for the competition
• Candidates are not allowed to simply present a CD with 3D Design

Registration 

• Candidates have to register themselves via the registration form available on the website. Participants may register only once. Registration is not transferable
• Following registration, participants will be sent an email with a link to validate the registration
• Once registered, participants can identify themselves in the website using their personal password and consult and request their  participant numbers in the Participant numbers section 

Participant Number and its Details 

All material submitted must be identified with the assigned participant numbers.

• Technical report
• Affidavit
• CD
• Packaging
• Other material relevant to the project

Enclosures to be sent

The following material must be submitted by each participant:

• A prototype of the proposed piece (scale 1:5).
• A project synopsis, to be presented on 2 to 4 double-space, single-face A4 typewritten pages.
• A project synopsis, 8 ½ inches x 11 inches for projects sent from the United States of America.
• CD with plans, diagrams, sketches, reders or pictures from the model.
• Duly signed an affidavit.

Kindly Note: Designs must be submitted in such a manner as to facilitate their mechanised mass production.

All products must be original, i.e., they must not reflect previous designs.

Submission of the Project

All the above-mentioned enclosures must be sent by post or messenger service, or by delivering the project by hand to the address given below by 24 November 2017

Particular consideration will be given to innovative contributions based on a feasibility study, which help to increase the product quality.

• The following factors will be analyzed:
  • Production costs.
  • Compliance with the intended functions.
  • Ergonomics.
• The candidates will be selected by the members of the Professional Jury.
• The winners will be notified of the results of the contest once the jury’s selection process gets over.
