JEE Main 2019 to be held twice by NTA in Computer-based mode
NTA (National Testing Agency), the newly formed examination authority will organise JEE Main twice a year through Computer-based mode only. On 7 July 2018, Prakash Javadekar, MHRD minister, announced at a press conference that the NTA will be conducting JEE Main 2019, NEET, CMAT, GPAT and NET. Earlier, Joint Entrance Examination Main was held in pen and paper mode as well as computer-based mode. As per the NTA press release, no changes will be made in the syllabus, exam pattern, fee and language. JEE Main 2019 will be conducted in January and April. Candidates can appear for Joint Entrance Exam Main more than once and their best score will be considered for admission. The detailed notification regarding NTA JEE Main 2019 are yet to be released.
JEE Main 2019 to be held online
Every year, almost 80% of students appearing for JEE Main apply for the paper-based mode instead of the computer-based mode. Last year, 11,35,084 candidates applied for JEE Main, out of which 10,43,739 appeared in the offline exam. A total of 112 cities hosted 1621 exam centres to conduct the JEE Main 2018 offline exam.
This year, JEE Main will be held in computer-based mode only, in several slots, so that candidates get the preferred exam centre which is nearby. NTA will be providing practice centres for students at various places so that they can practice the mock test and become familiar with the computer-based format. Candidates can appear for JEE Main more than once. Every applying candidate must know that the marks for the computer-based exam will be equated using psychometric methods, standardisation techniques and the best scores will be considered for the admission in various engineering courses.
JEE Main 2018 V/S JEE Main 2019
Here are some points which will help you know the changes between JEE Main 2018 And JEE Main 2019. Every candidate must go through the points carefully
- JEE Main 2018 was conducted by CBSE and JEE Main 2019 will be conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency)
- JEE Main 2018 was held once in a year. While JEE Main 2019 will be held twice a year i.e. in January and April 2019
- Earlier, there was a choice for the candidates to opt for online mode and pen-paper mode exam. In 2019, the JEE Main will be held through online mode (Computer-based exam) only
- Candidates can appear twice in JEE Main exam 2019
- Best score out of both the exam which would be held in January and April 2019 will be considered for admission
What remains the same in JEE Main 2019?
There are four things that will remain unchanged in JEE Main 2019 -
- Language: The language in which the exam will be held will remain same i.e. JEE Main will be held in Hindi, English and Gujarati language
- Syllabus: There will be no changes in JEE Main Syllabus
- Test Pattern: As per the notification, there will be no modification in the JEE Main Exam Pattern
- Fees: MHRD minister Prakash Javadekar clarified that there will be no increase in the application fee of JEE Main 2018, although it will be held in computer-based mode

What is JEE Main?
JEE Main is held for admission to the engineering courses offered by various participating institutes. Candidates who will qualify JEE Main and obtain the top 20 percentile or has secured 75% marks in their qualifying marks will be able to appear in JEE Advanced. On obtaining the required score and position in JEE Advanced, candidates will be able to secure admission into IITs, NITs, CFTI’s.
According to the notification, candidates applying for JEE Main will be given 8 different sitting and they can choose any of them to attend their online exam. Candidates will be provided with various mock test centres to practice for the computer-based mode.
