IITs will have 528 seats more from the next year
IITs will have 528 seats more from the next year. The IITs (Indian Institutes of Technology) are going to implement 5% seats in their total student intake from the next academic year 2017.
The decision came after a recent meeting of the Joint Admission Board (JAB), which is the highest decision-making body of IITJEE (advanced) and now the seat number will increase 10572 to 11100 from the next academic year. The chairpersons of all IITs attended the meeting. Check IIT Seats
While this increased number was to be absorbed by all 23 IITs, many of the older IIT institutes said they would not be able to immediately increase their student intake with their current infrastructure and condition. The Indian Institutes of Technology also decided to admit 10% more foreign students over and above the total student strength. A senior from IIT Kharagpur said, “We are in no position to admit extra students despite the government wanting each IIT to increase intake“.
“Even if we build accommodation, classrooms and other infrastructure from government funding, it takes many years to build world-class laboratories which offer state-of-the-art facilities“, the official said.
