Campus of Open learning at DU to go Digital
The Campus of Open Learning (COL), Delhi University has announced the bang-up news; COL to go Digital. The campus of Open Learning (COL) is planning a makeover with flip classrooms and introduce new short skill-based courses. COL has recorded the complete 4.5 lakh online admissions in India. The university is also planning to equip students from economically weaker sections with tablets to provide them with the digital mode of education.
Delhi University’s School of Open Learning plans to start flipped classrooms that will focus on teaching with discussions, case studies and project-oriented learning.
Highlights of the Delhi university's COL to go digital
- The university introduced Open Badge and Open Medal Course in line with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
- These Open Badge and Open Medal Course are being planned at COL’s professional training centres where there is 23 regular mode skill oriented courses running for the past five years.
- The students will earn the badge after the certain milestone or after developing a particular skill and after that, they can post that badge on social media or can use in online portfolio.
Professor Chandra Shekhar Dubey, director COL said “Students earn badges once they achieve a certain milestone of develop a particular skill and can then post them on social media or an online portfolio, When somebody - a potential employer perhaps clicks on the badge, it will link to information on how and when the badge was earned."
The COL, Delhi University focuses to equip students from economically weaker sections and to provide tablets to them to know the digital mode of education.

The Campus of Open Learning (COL) is announcing the modern flipped classroom which includes the creation of online and recorded lectures and e-material which is beneficial for the students in all manners. It is a model where a lecturer or homework elements of a course are reversed. Short lectures are viewed by students at home before the class session, while in-class time is devoted to exercises, projects, or discussions.
Tablets for students from economically disadvantaged groups. Under this system, the students would be first exposed to lessons not in class but at home with material provided to them for home study before they came for class sessions.
Director of Campus of Open Learning, Professor Chandra Dubey said that “We have started preparing for flipping classes with the creation of online and recorded lectures and e-material. In study centres, more time will be dedicated to discussions, case studies and project-oriented learning.”
New courses at Campus of Open Learning: COL’s major innovation would be SPOC i.e small private online courses that are in line with MIT. The new courses will help the students to get the job according to their capabilities. These new flipped classrooms will focus on teaching with discussions, case studies and project-oriented learning.
COL’s major priority will be small private online courses that are in line with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). It is also introducing badge courses in line to honour excellence. These Open Badge and Open Medal courses will be of short duration and teach crucial skills to the enroleled students.
