Best of Four subjects for DU admission is considered as an important factor. DU Cut off 2019 will be calculated on the basis of "Best of Four" formula in which the average of the highest marks in any of the four subject will be considered. Delhi University calculates the merit based on the marks secured in only four subjects and is popularly known as best of four. However, the students think that calculating Best of Four marks is complex but it is not. The percentage for the cut-off in DU is decided on the basis of marks obtained in the best four subjects in Class 12. Understanding the DU Admission 2019 based on "Best of Four" marks

DU cut off for admission in UG courses are calculated keeping "Best of Four" formula in mind. It is the formula in which the average of the highest marks in any of the four subjects will be considered. So the candidates before selecting the best of four should know how the best of four marks get calculated. While calculating the Best of four, the following things need to keep in mind

• There must be one language included in the best of four (core/ elective/ functional)
• The candidates need to include the subject in best of four in which the admission is being sought.
• The candidates must include any two other academic/ elective subject as per List A (given on this page). Disadvantage of 2.5% will be imposed for not doing so.

Best of Four Subjects in DU: Percentage Calculations for Arts/Humanities (Hons) Course

Calculation of 'Best of Four' subjects percentage for Arts/Humanities will be calculated in the following manner. There will be One language and 3 best academic or elective subjects taken into consideration while preparing the merit list. (The list of language subjects is given below in the table).

For Arts/Humanities Courses: Now out of the three electives/ academic programmes (opted by candidates in class 12), one of the subjects must be same as that of the course candidates is applying for the admission. If the elective/academic programme is not similar to the intended course, then there will be a deduction of 2.5% after the calculation of Percentage of best of four Subjects in DU Admission 2019. 

For Language Honours Courses: In case the candidates are applying for the admission to Honours in any language programme then the advantage of 2% (Increment) will be given to those candidates who have studied that particular elective language (same as that of one candidate has applied for) in class 12. And in case the candidates have not studied the language in their earlier qualifying exam they are applying for admission in DU (Hons.) course, then they have to undergo the deduction of 5% while calculating the best of four subjects.

NOTE:

• The candidates seeking admission to the English (Hons) and Hindi (Hons) are required to have the respective subjects (mandatory) in their class 12 or Equivalent Qualifying Exams, else, they are not eligible for the admission.
• The deduction of 5% is not applied if the candidates are applying for the English or Hindi Honours. There will be an advantage of 2% for such candidates.

Basics of the Calculations of Best of Four Subjects DU

• For BA Hons and Journalism (Hindi/English): Mass Media Studies is to be treated as the academic subject.
• BA Hons in Economics: The applicants must have passed Mathematics in the qualifying exam.
• If in case the Board is not offering Commerce as subject, then Accountancy will be treated as equivalent to Commerce.
• Biology/Biotechnology and Business Studies will be treated as Academic /elective subjects.
• For B.Com (H) and Economics (H) Admission: For admission to Honours in Economics and Commerce, the candidate must have studied and passed Mathematics.
  
• B.A.(Hons) Hindi Patrakarita and B.A (Hons) Journalism: Mass Media studies will be treated as the subject for the purpose of admission to B.A. (Hons.) Journalism (Hindi/English)
• B.A.(Hons) Applied Psychology: For admission to B.A.(Hons) Applied Psychology, Best of Four Percentage will be calculated in the same way as it will be calculated for BA(Hons) Psychology
• For admission to B.Sc.(Hons.) Computer Science Informatics Practice subject will be considered equal to Computer Science
• In case the candidate has studied elective and core languages, the core/elective language subject will be treated as a language, while elective language will be considered as academic/music elective subject

Best of Four Subjects Calculations For DU Admission to BCom / BCom (Hons)

For BCom & BCom (Hons): Calculation of 'Best of Four' subjects percentage is defined below. FCandidates must note that the all the subjects included in making the "Best of Four" calculations must have minimum 70% of theory part and the candidates seeking admission to BCom (Hons) must have passed Mathematics/Business Mathematics in qualifying examination or in Class 12.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:- 50% or more marks in Mathematics/Business Mathematics Combination of Subjects for Best Four Calculation

• An aggregate of 60% or more in English/Hindi and combination of best three among the following subjects: Mathematics, Accountancy, Economics and Business Studies/ Commerce.
• Inclusion of any subject other than mentioned above from List B in the combination of best three will lead to a deduction of 1% per subject on the aggregate, with a maximum net deduction of 2%.
• Inclusion of any subject other than List B in the combination of best three will lead to a deduction of 2.5% per subject on the aggregate of the Best Four.

Best of Four Subjects Calculations for DU Admission in BA Programmes

For Admission to BA Programme: The listed below criteria for the calculation for the Best of 4 subjects is to be followed for the DU Admission 2019. All subjects to be included in the calculation of ‘Best Four’must have at least 70% theory component of the exam. In case, the subject to be considered does not have 70% theory component and 30% practical component, then the marks of theory and practical only shall be converted to 70% and 30%.

• one language (Core/Elective/Functional)
• Any Three elective subjects can be chosen. Candidates will be imposed a deduction of up to 5% if in case there is the change of the stream for the admission to the BA programme (In simple words, the deduction of 5% marks is liable if candidates of commerce stream applies for the admission to the Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences or from Science stream to Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences).
• One non-listed (LIST A) subject can be included in the calculation of ‘Best of Four subjects’ without any deduction or increment.
  • If more than 1 non-listed programme is included in the calculations of the best of four, there will be a deduction of 2.5% each (non-listed programme of List A) will be applicable due to change of stream, if any.
• B.A.(Vocational): For admission to B.A.(Vocational) only, related vocational subjects may be treated at par with academic/elective subjects.
• The candidate might get an advantage of 10% in Best of Four in those colleges where MIL is offered as a subject and if the candidates opt for MIL (Except Hindi).

Best 4 Subjects Calculations For Admission to Science Courses

The Basis of Selection for Mathematical Sciences/Science/Home Science courses remains same as per the table is given below. The candidate must have secured 70% in PCM/PCB/PCMB theory exams in the qualifying exam. In case, the subject to be considered does not have 70% theory component and 30% practical component, then the marks of theory and practical only must be converted to 70% and 30%, respectively on pro-rata basis. These new marks will then be considered for calculation of PCM/PCB.
