About JEST 2018
JEST 2018 will be conducted by Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam for admission to PhD in Theoretical Computer Science or Neuroscience or Computational Biology or PhD / Integrated PhD Programme in Physics in one of the Participating Institutes. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST) is recognized as a National Eligibility Test (NET) by Science & Engineering Research Board (SERB). The score obtained by the candidates in JEST 2018 is valid only for one year. Candidates can go through this article for information regarding the eligibility criteria, schedule, and examination process.
Candidates can appear for the JEST examination in Physics or Theoretical Computer Science but not for both. There are 31 participating institutes that accept JEST score for admission to their courses.

Candidates are informed that the last date of JEST application submission is extended from 16 December 2017 to 22 December 2017.

JEST 2018 Eligibility criteria
Interested candidates should check the eligibility criteria before filling the online application form. The eligibility criteria will be different for different participating institutes. Candidates should check the websites/advertisements of the participating institutes for their eligibility criteria in details. Here we are giving the tentative eligibility criteria for M.Sc, Ph.D., and Integrated M.Sc / M.Tech. - Ph.D. programs in the participating institutes.
Age: There is no upper age limit to participate in the exam. However, due to each institute having their own eligibility criteria, candidates refer to the official sites of these institutes.
No of attempts: There is no restriction on the maximum number of attempts. The candidates can apply as many times as they want.
Academic Qualification: Candidates who have a degree in M.Sc, Integrated Ph.D., B.Sc. in physics/mathematics; Regular Ph.D., M.Sc in physics/ applied-physics; B.Tech./B.E./M.E./M.Tech./4 year B.S./M.C.A. may also be considered for M.Sc and Ph.D. (integrated and regular) programmes in some institutes. Students who are pursuing their final year in these courses are also eligible to appear for JEST 2018. The institute wise academic qualifications are given below.

JEST 2018 Application form and Admit Card
The application form will be available online only and must be submitted by the candidates before the last date. The link to apply online will be provided on this page as soon as the application form will be released. The steps to submit the online application form are given below.
STEP 1 – Registration
- To get themselves registered, candidates need to click on "register to appear for the exam" link in the Homepage of the official site.
- Here candidates need to provide a valid email id through which further communication will be done.
- After registration candidates will get a mail regarding resetting the password and further login.

STEP 2 – Filling the Application Form
- Now the candidates can log in to the JEST homepage with username (your email-id) and password. Here they can fill the form and save it or can modify an already saved form.
- After filling and checking all the mandatory entries of the application form candidates need to press the "Submit Application".
STEP 3 – Uploading Photograph and Signature
- Now the candidates need to upload their passport size photo and scanned signature in jpg files format.

STEP 4 – Application Fee Payment
- Now the candidates need to pay the application fee through online mode using SBI Epay.
- The application fee can be paid using Credit/Debit card or net banking. No other mode of payment will be entertained. Candidates must note that application fee can be paid only through Master and Visa cards.
STEP 5 – Completion of application process
- After submitting the complete online application form and making successful e-payment of the application fee the submission procedure is complete. Now no modification will be allowed.
- After the final submission of online application form candidates will receive an E-mail in which their Application data containing Unique Submission Number and filled in data will be provided.
- Candidates need to save his/her Unique Submission Number for further correspondence with the JEST authority.
JEST Application form submission
JESt Application form has to be submitted online only. Candidates need not send the application form or any other document to the authority. However, it is advisable to keep a printout of the application form and your Unique Submission Number safe until the time of admission.
JEST Admit Card 2018
The admit card for the JEST will be released by the official website of JEST after 20 January 2018. Candidates need to bring a printout of the downloaded admit card and one photo Id proof for entry into the examination centre. No, admit cards will be sent by post/email.
