TNEA 2018 (Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission) is a single window counselling conducted by Anna University for B.Tech Admission 2018. TNEA 2018 is a selection process for candidates seeking admission to UG level engineering admission in Tamil Nadu. Every year more than 1.5 lakh engineering aspirants get admission to 571 engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu based on TNEA Counselling conducted by Anna University. TNEA 2018 Counselling Process is conducted by Anna University for the following courses:
- B.E./ B.Tech - 4 years (8 semesters)
- B. E. (Sandwich - 5 years (10 semesters)- (Practical Training + Evening Classes)
Until the last year, TNEA Counselling was conducted in offline mode. However, from the year 2018, the counselling process of Anna University will be online only

TNEA Colleges
Colleges stats of the TNEA Counselling process is given below for which the seats will be allotted to the eligible candidates. It is to be noted that there will be no entrance examination for B.Tech/ B.E admission in Tamil Nadu. TNEA counselling will be based on the marks secured by the candidate in the HSC. However, students will have to fill the application form to apply for TNEA 2018.

TNEA Eligibility criteria
Domicile of Tamil Nadu - Only domicile of Tamil Nadu and some other permitted category students as given below are eligible to apply for TNEA for admission in engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.
- Candidates who are native Tamil Nadu and have passed Class 8-12 in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not enclose Nativity Certificate.
- Candidates who are native of Tamil Nadu and have passed any of Class 8-12 exam from schools situated outside Tamil Nadu can also apply. They should enclose a copy of Nativity Certificate only in electronic form/digitally signed e-Certificate.
TNEA Eligibility for Non-Natives of Tamil Nadu
- Other State candidates who have studied Class 8-12 in Tamil Nadu are eligible to apply. They need not enclose “Nativity Certificate”.
- Children of Central Government Employees irrespective of their native, provided their parents/ guardians have been serving in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past 5 years.
- Children of All India service Tamil Nadu cadre officers.
- Children of employees in Public Sector or Government recognized Institutions who at the time of submission of application are employed in Tamil Nadu continuously for the past five years.
Academic Qualification & Minimum Marks
- Passed in HSC (Academic) or its equivalent with a minimum average percentage in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together as given below.
- Passed any one of the HSC (Vocational Subject) with any one of the Engineering related subjects namely Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry with a minimum average percentage put together as given below.
- Eligible Vocational subjects: General Machinist, Electrical Machines and Appliances, Electronic Equipment, Draughtsman Civil, Auto Mechanic & Textile Technology
Marine Engineering Branch: the candidate should pass in 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English as the separate subject with an average of not less than 60% in PCM. Further, a minimum of 50% in English either at 10th or 12th standard is required for all the candidates.

TNEA Application form and Admit Card
TNEA Online application process has been started from 3 May 2018 and the candidates should fill the application form by furnishing the correct details in the required section of the form. TNEA application form must reach ANNA University on or before the due date. The last date to submit the application for is 30 May 2018. The application process is online only. After filling the application form candidates must take a print out of the same and take it to the TNEA Facilitation Centre for verification along with the original documents.

TNEA 2018 - Tuition Fee Concession for eligible candidates
- Tuition Fee Waiver: Sons and daughters of parents whose annual income is less than 4.50 lakhs from all sources. This scheme is applicable in Self-Financing Engineering Colleges and Self-Supporting courses in Government Aided Engineering Colleges only.
- First Graduate Tuition Fee Concession: Tuition fee concession will be granted to the candidates who attend the counselling and joined in professional courses in Government / Aided and Self-Financing Engineering Colleges.
- The candidates who are to be the first graduate in a family are only eligible for fee concession.
- The candidate is not eligible for fee concession if his/her brother or sister has already availed First Graduate Tuition Fee concession for studying Professional Courses, then the applicant is not eligible for such concession.
TNEA Result and Counselling
The selection of candidates for counselling will be based on the marks obtained in the prescribed subjects reduced to 200. Mathematics:100, Physics + Chemistry: 100) in the qualifying examination.
Normalisation of Score
- The marks obtained by the students in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by various Boards or Authority shall be equated with the marks obtained by the students in the same subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by the State Board of Tamil Nadu by adopting the method of normalization.
- For instance, If the highest mark secured by the student of State Board of Tamil Nadu in Physics is 100 and the highest mark secured by a student of any other Board in the same subject is 90 both the highest marks will be considered to be equal to 100.
- If a student of the other Board secures 60 marks in Physics when the first mark in Physics in the same Board is 90, 60 marks will be considered to be equal to 66.66 marks as arrived below.
- National Boards namely CBSE and ISCE, the highest mark obtained in the relevant subject by the candidates at the National Level alone will be taken into consideration for normalization.

TNEA 2018 Rank List
TNEA Merit List: After normalization of marks in the relevant subjects in the qualifying examination conducted by different Boards, the qualified students shall be merged into a common merit list.
- Percentage of marks in Mathematics.
- Percentage of marks in Physics.
- Percentage of marks in the Fourth optional subject.
- Date of Birth (elder will be given preference).
- Random number assigned (higher value will be given preference).
TNEA 2018 Counselling
Candidates will be called for counselling in the order of their merit. Based on the merit and communal reservation, allotment of the branch/college chosen by the candidate will be made. Candidates have to opt for colleges and branches that are available at the time of counselling. TNEA Counselling 2018 is also known as Anna University Counselling. This year, Anna University has decided to conduct the counselling process in online mode only.
