OBC Scholarship is offered to the Other Backward Class category students in India, OBC category comprises about 41% of India’s population and is categorised as the socially and educationally unprivileged sections of the country. There are various OBC scholarship schemes by the state and the central government for the OBC category for the enlightenment of the path to education for the talented ones with weaker financial backgrounds because improving the social and economic status of the backward communities lies in improving their access to education and training.
The National Commission for Scheduled Castes is also responsible for looking into the grievances of the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
From starting to till the end of the year 2016 more than 50 Lac OBC students all over India are the beneficiaries of the National Level Government Scholarship Schemes for the OBC with more than 840 Crore Rupees disbursed as scholarships to the welfare of the backward communities excluding the non-government scholarships.

National Fellowship for the OBC Students
National fellowship for the OBC Students is a merit-based fellowship cum scholarship scheme, conducted and awarded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India. Under this fellowship, scheme shortlisted postgraduates students pursuing their higher studies in M.Phil./Ph.D and postgraduate degrees in Humanities, Social sciences and Engineering and technology. 300 fellowships are awarded every year to the meritorious performer shortlisted by the selection committee. Shortlisted applicants will be getting a monthly stipend up to Rs 25,000 and other allowances of Rs 5,000.

Post Matric Scholarship Scheme for OBC Students
State Government of every state offer the Post Matric scholarship, However, 100% financial support is granted by the central government. Post Matric scholarships are meant for the SC/ST/OBC/Minority sections of a particular state.
- Post matric itself means that it is awarded to the meritorious student of a particular state those who have passed their class 12 and have scored outstanding results despite tough competitions and tougher financial conditions.
- To be eligible or this OBC scholarship the applicant must have annual family income less than Rs 1 Lac per annum and the allowances will be based on the course they pursue after class 12.
- For the year of 2015, the government has spent 729 Crores for the Post matric scholarship by [providing financial aid to more than 25 Lac students in India].

Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for OBC Students
Same as that of Post-matric Scholarship, Pre Matric Scholarships are awarded by the State Government with 50% financial assistance provided by the central government and in the case of Union Territory 100% assistance is provided by the Central government.
- The only difference is that Pre Matric Scholarship scheme is for the meritorious students of class 1 to 10 with financially weaker sections i.e. their family gross income is less than Rs 44500.
- Under this scholarship scheme, students are awarded the monthly stipend ranging from Rs 250 to Rs 500 depending on their class.
- Students applying for this OBC scholarships do not have to submit the application forms individually, schools will have to submit their application forms before the deadline.
- Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme has more than 25 Lac beneficiaries in the year 2015 with more than Rs 79 Lac rupees disbursed directly to their accounts.

Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for Study Abroad
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India has offered a special of its kind OBC scholarship who are pursuing their Masters and Ph.D. level courses in the foreign country. With an opportunity study abroad, Central Sector Scholarship Scheme will be covering all of their expenses of approximately Rs 15 Lacs per annum more or less depending on the country. In a year total 25 scholarships are granted to the students who are below the age of 35 in Engineering, Agriculture Science, Management and Medicine as follows:

Merit Scholarship for OBC Students - Delhi
Merit Scholarship for OBC Students conducted by the Department for the welfare of SC/ST/OBC/Minorities is a merit-based scholarship scheme for the students of class 6th to 12th whose annual income of the family is below Rs 2 Lacs residing and studying in Delhi. Scholarship amount awarded to the students varies from class to class and the marks they obtain in the final results of their previous class. Apart from the OBC Category, the Merit Scholarship is also awarded to the SC/ST and Minorities category in Delhi. OBC students receive Rs 600 to Rs 4500 as the financial aid on an annual basis by the central government.

Merit Scholarship for Technical Professionals Students - Delhi
Merit Scholarship for Technical Professionals are provided by the Department for the welfare of SC/ST/OBC/Minorities, Delhi Government to the Students of the Colleges/Professional/technical Institutes whose annual family income is less than Rs 2 Lacs per annum.
- This OBC Scholarship is awarded to motivate and support the professional education of the merit and bright students in Delhi. Monthly scholarship amount ranging from Rs 420 to Rs 1620 will be directly disbursed to the student’s account depending upon the course/degree they are pursuing.
- The applicants can apply for the Merit Scholarship Scheme for Technical Professional via their institute only; no individual applications are accepted by any means.

ONGC Scholarship
ONGC Scholarships are sponsored by the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited for the OBC and economically backward general students who have secured more than 60% marks in class 12 and are pursuing the 1st year of their graduation and post-graduation whose family income is less than Rs 2 Lac.
Every year 1000 scholarships are awarded to the shortlisted candidates with Rs 48,000 awarded annually to each candidate i.e Rs 4000 are disbursed directly to the accounts of the applicants per month.
